Cielo first man under 41

Auburn’s Cesar Cielo becomes the first man to break 41 setting a new NCAA record for the fourth time in as many tries dating back to the SEC Championships with a time of 40.92.  If nothing else Cielo has been consistent of the blocks all weekend long as the Auburn junior reacts in .67 seconds leaving the blocks.  It was the same time that he was off in on his was to setting his 50 records in both the relay and the individual event.  Cielo was out in a 19.60 and the crowd immediately realized that they were watching history in the making as the entire building united behind the Auburn Tiger to help him bring it home in a 21.72.  Yale’s Alex Righi is second with a 42.13.  Righi tried to hang with Cielo and did so through the first 30 yards but it wasn’t enough as he split a 19.95 and a 22.18 to take the second best spot on the podium.   Arizona’s Nicolas Nilo drives the stake a little further in the hearts of the Longhorns as he finishes third with a 42.42.  The junior Wildcat found himself in third after the first 50 with a 20.34 split needing to make up ground.  He did, out splitting Righi with a 22.08 but just ran out of room and was forced to settle for third. California’s William Copeland takes fourth in a time of 42.49.  Jonas Persson from Tennessee takes fifth with a 42.50.  Alexei Puninski from Auburn wins the sixth spot with a time of 42.53.  And Northwestern’s Kyle Bubolz and Texas senior Matt McGinnis round out the top eight with 42.67 and 42.86 in that order. 

Arizona’s Darian Townsend wins the consolation heat with his time of 42.44.  

Arizona finally puts a 100 on Texas with a score of 444.5 to 337.  Cal takes Stanford's third place with a score of 270.5 to 247.  Auburn regains fifth with 246.
