Missouri's Max Jaben, has told the Kansas City Star that he has tested positive for an anabolic steroid. The former Kansas City Blazer has been training in Israel since attaining Israeli citizenship.
The test is the latest setback for Jaben. The talented freestyler originally enrolled at Florida, but struggled to match his pre-collegiate success. In April, Jaben told the Kansas City Star, “The coach and I had issues, and I probably made a couple mistakes as a freshman that I know better now,” he says. “It was just a bunch of things."
Jaben transferred to Missouri in January 2007 and began a long journey that led him to Israeli citizenship, and Olympic qualifying times.
But now that, along with his Missouri career, could be on hold. The NCAA upholds drug-testing suspension from a national or international sports governing body that has adopted the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA). After the first positive test, a student-athlete cannot compete in any intercollegiate sport for one year and loses one of four years of eligibility.
