UCI/Ayres Hotel & Suites Sprint Invitational

The UC Irvine men and the Washington State women won the UCI/Ayres Hotel & Suites Sprint Invitational Saturday afternoon at Anteater Aquatic Complex.

The Anteater men defended their title from last season and now have won four of the past five Sprint Invitationals. UCI won with 578 points. UNLV took second with 419 and Cal State Northridge was right behind in third with 403 points.

Senior Eddie Erazo won the 200 fly with a meet record time of 1:50.14. Senior Duke Krautim won the 200 IM with a time of 2:00.00. Max Parrague won the 50 free with a time of 21.81. Johan Claar of UNLV won the 200 free as he broke his own meet record with a time of 1:41.48. Devin Phillips of UNLV won the 200 back with a meet record-tying time of 1:51.38.

The Cougar women won their first ever title at the UCI Invitationals. WSU finished with 659 points. The Anteaters took second with 409 points and UNLV was third with 343 points.

Sophomore Lyndsay DePaul won the 200 fly with a meet record time of 2:00.75. DePaul also won the 200 IM with a time of 2:06.75 and the 200 back with a time of 2:02.73. Senior Chelsea Nagata won the 100 fly and broke her own meet record with a time of 55.10. Nagata also won the 50 free with a time of 23.98, the 50 fly (24.74 - meet record) and the 50 back (26.16 - meet record). Senior Tanya Nielsen won the 200 free with a time of 1:54.01.

The UC Irvine/Ayres Hotel & Suites Invitationals continue Saturday afternoon with the Distance Invitational.
