.: No. 1 Georgia Women Defeat Southern Methodist 167-125

Athens, GA , January 6th, 2008

The No. 1-ranked Georgia women’s swimming and diving team made a successful return from the Christmas break on Saturday, dispatching Southern Methodist 167-125 at Gabrielsen Natatorium.

The Lady Bulldogs improved to 8-0 this season and won for the 61st consecutive time at Gabrielsen Natatorium.

“I was really pleased with our effort across the board,” Georgia head coach Jack Bauerle said. “Our kids and their kids were tired from the training, but everybody gave great effort. I was really proud of the way our kids competed today.”

Morgan Scroggy took the 100-yard backstroke with a season-best and NCAA provisional qualifying time of 55.67. Scroggy also lowered her B cut in the 200-yard backstroke as she won in 1:58.79.

Kelsey Ditto claimed the 1,000-yard freestyle race in a time of 9:48.28. She then won the 500-yard freestyle in 4:49.05.

The Lady Bulldogs opened the meet by winning the 400-yard medley relay as the team of Scroggy, Mhyria Miller, Annie Broome and Kelly McNichols stopped the clock in a season-best 3:44.92.

Chelsea Nauta came in first in the 200-yard freestyle, touching in 1:48.57. Colleen Haase won the 200-yard breaststroke in 2:16.96. McNichols took the 100-yard breaststroke in 1:01.81. Broome, a transfer from Maryland competing in her first meet at Georgia, claimed the 200-yard butterfly with a B-cut time of 2:02.14. Anne-Marie Botek sprinted to the 50-yard freestyle win with a time of 23.46.

Also on Saturday, the Georgia Diving Invitational concluded, with the Lady Bulldogs’ Hannah Moore placing 15th on platform with 171.50 points.
