The Harvard men’s swimming and diving team won 10 of the 16 events and had five multi-event winners en route to a 176-124 victory against previously unbeaten Navy Saturday afternoon at Lejeune Hall.
Derick Chui swept the backstroke events for the Crimson (4-0, 4-0 EISL), capturing the 100 in 1:01.00 and the 200 in 2:05.50. Sam Wollner earned wins in the 200 freestyle (1:51.14) and 400 freestyle (4:00.79) and Mason Brunnick finished second in the 400 with a mark of 4:01.83. In the 50 freestyle, Harvard took second and third, as Pat Quinn and David Guernsey touched the wall in 23.12 and 23.27, respectively.
Quinn earned two victories in relay events, as he, Will Heyburn, Bill Jones and David Guemsey took the 200 freestyle relay with a time of 1:34.19. Quinn, Bill Jones, Geoff Rathgeber and Jordan Diekema earned the 400 medley relay title as well (3:46.98). Quinn was also Harvard's best finisher in the 100 freestyle, edging Navy's Jack Curran, for second place (52.13).
Rathgeber was the third Crimson swimmer to earn multiple individual victories, as he won the 100 (1:04.22) and 200 (2:20.11) breaststroke events. In the 100 race, Justin Davidson finished less than a second behind his teammate, completing the event in 1:04.94. Rathgeber also placed second in the 400 IM (4:26.10), while Sam Wollner took third (4:29.10).
In the 1500 freestyle, Harvard took the top three slots, as Eric Lynch won the race in 15:48.06, followed by second and third place finishes by Alex Meyer (15:49.18) and Blake Lewkowitz (16:16.14).
Lucas Sanders placed second in both diving events, earning a score of 302.85 in the 1 mtr and 330.00 in the 3 mt event. Zac Ranta was third in the 1 mtr dive even with 270.75.
Brothers, Bill Jones and Dan Jones, finished first and second in the 100 butterfly, completing the course in 55.78 and 56.78. They were also second and third, respectively, in the 200 butterfly, as Bill had a time of 2:04.68 and Dan completed the event in 2:06.14.
Navy (11-1, 2-1 EISL) had two individual victories by Jon Galinski and Adam Meyer. Galinski took the diving events, taking the 1 meter (324.45) and the 3 meter (351.00), while Meyer captured the 200 butterfly (2:03.27) and 400 IM (4:24.29). Alex Oldenkamp won the 50 freestyle (22.97) for the Midshipmen, and Aaron Aiken earned the victory in the 100 freestyle (51.39).
All of the races in Saturday's dual were in meters.
In the previous meeting between the schools, Quinn, Rathgeber and Wollner won two individual events each as Harvard defeated Navy, 188-112, at Blodgett Pool on Jan. 6, 2007.
