Winning 21 of 22 events, the University of Washington
men’s and women’s swimming teams easily defeated Cal State Northridge on
Saturday morning in a non-conference dual meet.
The Huskies picked up where they left off a day earlier when they defeated USC
for the first time in over a decade. On Saturday they carried that momentum over
as the men won by a score of 124-69 for their third-straight dual meet win, and
the Husky women defeated CS Northridge, 118-78, and to run their winning streak
to five straight dual meets.
The Husky women won all 11 events and went 1-2-3 in five individual events while
taking the top two spots in the other four individual events. They also won the
200 freestyle relay and the 400 medley relay.
Petra Radovic and Genevieve Patterson both had two wins apiece for the Huskies.
Radovic won the 200 freestyle (1:53.41) and the 500 freestyle (5:02.75), and
Patterson took first in the 200 breaststroke (2:21.42) and 200 individual medley
(2:08.91).
Also for the UW women, Erin Campbell won the 200 butterfly in a time of 2:05.41,
Kim Jasmer won the 1650 freestyle with a time of 16:52.38, Emilee Jennings took
first in the 50 freestyle in a time 24.30 and Mary Patterson won the 200
backstroke with a time of 2:07.76.
The Washington men took first in 10 of their 11 events, including going 1-2-3 in
three individual events and taking the top two spots in four other individual
events. Like the women, the UW men also swept the two relay events.
Freshman Ben Aaberg was the only double-winner for the UW men, winning the 100
freestyle (46.83) and the 200 freestyle (1:42.98).
Ivan Perhat added a win in the 50 freestyle (21.13), Jereme Barnett-Woods took
first in the 500 freestyle (4:47.00) and Scott Spansail was victorious in the
1650 freestyle (16:09.89).
Also taking first-place were Evan Bernier in the 200 individual medley
(1:53.65), Andre Blyth in the 200 butterfly (1:52.93) and Yonatan Cohen in the
200 breaststroke (2:07.31).
The Husky women are now 9-4 overall while the men are 6-7.
Washington hosts Seattle University this Thursday at 12 p.m. at the Weyerhaeuser
King County Aquatic Center in Federal Way.
