On senior day at the Aquatic Center, the Ohio swimming and diving team defeated rival Miami, 186-114, to record its fifth-straight dual-meet victory. Ohio improves to 10-1 overall and 5-1 in the Mid-American Conference with the win, while Miami falls to 5-4 and 3-2 in the MAC.
The Bobcats once again used a complete team effort to out tally the RedHawks, but it was the performances of senior co-captain Emily Wylam (Yorktown, Pa.), sophomore Chelsey Bower (Bethel Park, Pa.) and freshman Amanda Cecere (Chelmsford, Mass.) that led the way. Wylam, in her final home meet as a Bobcat, won the 100-yard backstroke (58.40) and 200-yard backstroke (2:07.02), Bower took the 50-yard freestyle (24.00) and the 100-yard freestyle (52.29) and Cecere touched the wall first in the 200-yard butterfly (2:03.81) and placed second in the 100-yard butterfly (57.81).
Wylam and Cecere also teamed with seniors Mallory Rico (Mentor, Ohio) and Molly Kravitz (Solon, Ohio) to place first in the 200-yard medley relay (1:47.14) in the first event of the meet. In the final event of the day, Bower and Cecere teamed with senior co-captain Ilse Petersen (Johannesburg, South Africa) and freshman Rachel Heim (San Diego, Calif.) to win the 400-yard freestyle relay (3:33.69).
Petersen added 12 more points to the Bobcats’ total, taking first in the 200-yard freestyle (1:52.94) and third in the 100-yard freestyle (53.38). Heim finished the day with two wins and two second place finishes. She won the 100-yard butterfly (57.25) and finished second in the 200-yard freestyle (1:54.03). Heim also swam the third leg of Ohio’s second place 200-yard medley relay team, to go with the first place finish of her 400-yard freestyle team.
The meet was the final home meet for Ohio seniors Jamie Acks (Solon, Ohio), Lindsey Connor (Venetia, Pa.), Lindsey DeStefano (Wildwood, Mo.), Michaela Hahn-Lawson (Painesville, Ohio), Kravitz, Petersen, Rico, Sigal Simsolo (Kibbutz, Yakum, Israel) and Wylam.
The Bobcats will step out of conference for their next meet, when they travel to Xavier Friday, Feb. 1.
