Individually, the Pokes were paced by senior Sam King and juniors Eli Bell, Alex Larkin and Matt Urich who each won two events.  King swam to first place finishes in the 200 backstroke (1:53.86) and 200 IM (1:55.56), Bell won the 100 (46.56) and 200 freestyles (1:42.58), Larkin won the 100 (57.82) and 200 breaststrokes (2:05.99) and Urich claimed the top-spot in the 100 (51.43) and 200 butterflies (1:55.96).  Other Cowboys who won events included sophomores Robbie Hilton (1000 freestyle in 9:55.00) and Tommy Gregory (50 freestyle in 21.45).

“Our men started things off with a bang by winning the first diving event, sweeping the medley relay and then winning the next two events.  Our women also had some great wins, but what really stood out was our depth.  Both teams raced hard enough to win and should be proud of their effort.  Now we need to get refocused overnight and be ready for a real test tomorrow in BYU.”

About 16 hours after the conclusion of Friday’s meet, the UW swimming and diving team will return to the pool as they host the league leading BYU Cougars.  The diving is set to begin at 10:30 a.m. and the swimming will begin at 12 p.m. at Corbett Pool.
