Westminster Sweeps Grove City

The Westminster College men's and women's swimming teams secured wins over visiting PAC-rival Grove City Tuesday night. The Titans women (6-3, 3-1 PAC) won 146-116, while the Titan men (7-1, 3-0 PAC) won 152-102.

The Westminster women won seven events and the Titan men posted top times in 13 events.

Multiple winners for the Titan women included senior Becky Giles (Johnstown, Pa./Westmont Hilltop) winning the 100-yard butterfly(1:02.59) and the 200 IM (2:15.99), junior Megan Mier (Copley, Ohio/Revere) capturing the 100 (1:01.79) and the 200 (2:10.75) backstroke events, and sophomore Emily Dressler (Hummelstown, Pa./Mount Calvary Christian) taking the 200 (1:58.89) and 500 (5:19.52) freestyles.

Multiple winners for the Titan men included freshman Devin Gannon (Glenshaw, Pa./Shaler) winning the 100 (56.00) and 200 (2:02.22) backstrokes and sophomore Ben Gutmann (Cranberry Twp., Pa./Seneca Valley) capturing the 100 (59.51) and 200 (2:10.99) breaststrokes.

Senior Tom Benoit (Pittsburgh, Pa./Shaler) and sophomore Brett Gerthoffer (Pittsburgh, Pa./Shaler), who swam on the 400 medley relay team that earned a win, also won the 100 (48.49) and (1:45.41) freestyles, respectively.

Juniors Conor Simpson (Monroeville, Pa./Gateway) and Chris Lehberger (New Wilmington, Pa./Wilmington), who helped the 200 medley relay team to a first-place finish, also touched first in the 200 butterfly (2:01.38) and 200 IM (2:01.54), respectively.

Westminster hosts Carnegie Mellon on Saturday at 1 p.m.
