Sun Belt Announces Weekly Awards

New Orleans, LA , January 24th, 2008

North Texas’ Hannah Bakke and WKU’s Sean Penhale have been named the Sun Belt Swimmers of the Week while Florida International’s Linsday “Peanut” Lowell and Missouri State’s Eric Ducourneau have been named the Divers of the Week.

Bakke, a senior from Little Rock, Ark., set a new pool record at the Pohl Recreation Center against Houston over the weekend as she finished first in the 100-yard breaststroke with a time of 1:05:36 beating Texas A&M’s Chelsea Helgason’s mark of 1:05:41 set in 2007. Bakke helped lead the Mean Green past the University of Houston for the first time in the program's 10-year history. North Texas was 0-13 against Houston prior to Friday's win over the Cougars. Bakke followed Friday's performance up with a first place finish in both the 100 and 200 breaststroke against Rice University the next day.

Sophomore Penhale continues his record-breaking season by scattering the school record in the 1650 Free by just under 4.5 seconds.  His 15:23.27 time in the race took down two-time Sun Belt Conference swimmer of the year Karl Swanson’s mark from back in 2005.

Peanut Lowell (Cooper City, Fla.) won the 3-meter in an unscored meet against Florida Atlantic and Indian River CC at FAU Saturday morning. Lowell posted her second NCAA ‘A’ Standard score in as many weeks to win the 3-meter with a 272.55 mark. She took second in the 1-meter competition with a 252.50.

Ducourneau was unbeatable on the boards for Missouri State in the dual against Southern Illinois University. Ducourneau claimed first on the one-meter board with a score of 279.90 and first on the three-meter board with a score of 331.50. Ducourneau’s score on the three-meter board ranks first in the Sun Belt.
