.: WKU Swimming And Diving Pick Up Victories Over Evansville

The Western Kentucky University men’s and women’s swimming and diving programs won all but one individual event on the day on their way to victories over Evansville Saturday afternoon at the Bill Powell Natatorium.

The Lady Toppers won 153-127 to improve to 6-1 on the year as the men stayed undefeated at 7-0 with a 152-133 victory.

The women were led by three swimmers, each collecting top finishes in two events. Emily Waits took home first in both the one-meter and three-meter dive. She scored 242.48 points in the one-meter and followed it up with 225.15 point performance in the three-meter. Erica Wilson (216.53) and Charlotte Martin (213.38) placed second and third respectively in the three-meter. Jessica Aspinall was victorious in the 100 Back and the 200 Back. She sped across the pool in 58.77 in the 100 and 2:07.42 in the 200. Claire Donahue then won the 100 Fly (57.26) and the 200 IM (2:12.13).

Krista Mantay won the 1650 Free in 17:38.11 while Raichelle King finished third in 17:49.60. Brittany Doss took home first in the 100 Breast (1:08.17) and then Kelly Hargather won the 200 Breast in 2:25.88. Mallory Neltner won the 50 Free (25.14), Allyson Kiracofe took the 100 Free (54.84) and Maggie Skiles finished first in the 500 Free (5:13.17). Katie Sweeney then won the 200 Fly in 2:10.12.

Two pool records fell in the men’s races as Sean Penhale continued his record-breaking season by beating his own pool mark in the 1650 Free with a time of 15:23.27. Sean Shannon (16:04.74) and Cameron Higdon (16:33.89) finished second and third in that event, respectively. Francis Gilmore then took down his old pool record with a time of 1:47.32 in the 200 Back.

Robert Wimberly swept both diving events, winning the one-meter by scoring 252.75 points and the three-meter with 264.60 points. Stephen Claycomb finished second in the 50 Free (22.11) and the 100 Fly (52.89). Kyle Peterson won the 100 Fly in 50.87 and Nick Kalivas was third with a time of 52.98.

Mike Podbielski won the 100 Free (47.67) while Lukasz Herbst was victorious in the 200 Free (1:41.90) and Greg Gerum earned first in the 500 Free (4:37.07). Bryan Mell and Trey Chelf won the 100 and 200 Breast events, respectively. Mike Caruso took first in the 100 Back (52.53), Brian Lewis won the 200 Fly in 1:52.59, and Wes Brown won the 200 IM in 1:57.69.
