.: Wolfpack Takes Final Home Meet of the Season

Reno, Nv. , January 18th, 2008

Reno, Nev. - The University of Nevada swimming and diving team closed out its home schedule with a 186-111 victory of New Mexico State University at Lombardi Pool in Reno, Nev. Thursday afternoon.  The Wolf Pack won 13 of 16 events on the day and it could have been 15 had they not exhibitioned the last two events of the meet.  With the victory the Pack improved to 5-3 in dual competition this season while the Aggies dropped to 6-4.

The Pack 200-yard medley relay team of Jeanette Tour, Margaret Doolittle, Michaela Schmidt, and Nonie Wainwright got the day started with victory in a time of 1:46.51.  Nevada’s second team placed third and the Wolf Pack led 13-4 after one event and never trailed in winning the dual.

Junior Courtney Eads was the swimming star in the meet winning all three of the individual events in which she swam.  Eads won the 1,000-yard freestyle in a time of 10:10.62.  She followed that with victories in the 200-yard butterfly and 200-yard breaststroke.

A senior, Wainwright was a double individual winner placing first in the 50 and 100-yard freestyle events.  Junior Kim Kabesh was also a double winner in the pool taking first in the 200-yard freestyle and 100-yard butterfly.  Kabesh also placed third in the 200-yard backstroke.

For the second dual in a row the Pack divers swept the top three spots in both the 1 and 3-meter events.  Candice Minette was first in both events scoring 360.05 in the 3-meter and 309.55 in the 1-meter.  Chelsea Sawyer and Heather Ramirez were second and third respectively in both events.

Three other swimmers won events on the day as Tour placed first in the 100-yard backstroke, Doolittle swam to a first place finish in the 100-yard breaststroke, and Miranda Moore won the 500-yard freestyle.  Moore added a second place finish in the 1,000-yard freestyle.

Freshman Marichi Gandionco had a pair of top three finishes taking second in the 200-yard butterfly and third in the 500-yard freestyle.  Senior Bobbie Lee Reese took second in the 200-yard freestyle and fellow senior Michaela Schmidt was second in the 50-yard freestyle.

Sophomore Summer Halwas-Morgan was third in the 200-yard freestyle and posted the fastest time in the 200-yard IM but as an exhibition swimmer.  JayDee Huppert finished third place in the 100-yard freestyle as the Pack had 24 top three finishes in the meet.

The Pack close out the regular season on Sunday with a double dual with UC San Diego and UC Davis at Davis, Calif.  The meet is scheduled to get underway at noon.
