Jasmer Leads Washington Past Oregon ST., 143-111

Kim Jasmer won three events on Friday night to lead the Washington Husky women’s swim team to a 143-111 victory over Oregon State in a Pac-10 dual meet. The Huskies victory gave them their first conference win of the season and puts them at 6-4 overall and 1-4 in the Pac-10.
 
Jasmer picked up wins in the 100 freestyle (51.80), 500 freestyle (4:58.13) and 1000 freestyle (10:09.75) to pace the Huskies on the night.
 
“Jasmer’s three wins tonight were really big for us,” said Washington head coach Whitney Hite. “Going the one-thousand, the five-hundred and the one-hundred shows how versatile she is and how valuable she is to us. She was very good tonight.”
 
Genevieve Patterson also had a big night for Washington, swimming the third-fastest time in school history in winning the 100 breaststroke with a time of 1:02.89. She also took second in the 200 breaststroke in a time of 2:18.77, which is the eighth-fastest in UW history.
 
Ariana Kukors, who also trains locally with the King Aquatic Club, won the 200 freestyle for the UW with a time of 1:49.15, and also took second in the 200 backstroke (2:01.46). Erin Campbell added a first-place finish in the 100 butterfly (55.36) and a second-place finish in the 100 backstroke (57.09).
 
Emilee Jennings also had a first-place finish for the Huskies, winning the 50 freestyle in a time of 24.07. Teammate Samantha Dole came in second with a time of 24.22.
 
Jasmer’s win in the 1000 freestyle led a 1-2-3 finish in the event for Washington. Ashley Daly came in second with a time of 10:17.49 and Ally Rich took third in a time of 10:22.31.
 
Kim Kripps in the 200 butterfly (2:06.16), Maggie Bever in the 100 freestyle (51.97) and Petra Radovic in the 500 freestyle (4:58.20) all had second-place finishes for the Huskies.
 
Washington’s 400 medley relay team started out the meet with a close victory in the event. Kukors, Patterson, Campbell and Jennings teamed up to win in a time of 3:44.92, narrowly besting Oregon State’s time of 3:44.98.
 
Hite was pleased with the way his team swam after having a five-hour drive down to Oregon the day of the meet.
 
“I’m very happy with the effort our girls put out, especially after the long drive. Oregon State is a very good team and Larry (Liebowitz) is one of the best coaches in the country. I wouldn’t be surprised if they are a top twenty team at the end of the year. We beat a very good team tonight.”
