Boston University Splits With Dartmouth

HANOVER, NH , January 13th, 2008
The Boston University men's swimming and diving team defeated Dartmouth, 189.5-110.5, while the women's squad dropped a tight meet, 154-146, to the Big Green on Saturday afternoon at Karl Michael Pool. The men's team claimed first place in 14-of-16 events, while Eve Kinsella picked up three victories and Sarah Doersam and Tess Waresmith were multi-event winners for the women's squad.

The 200-medley relay team of Jeff Wurm, Eric Carlson, Matt Rickett and Kyle Berg got things started early on for the Terriers with a victory in the first relay event. The team clocked in at one minute, 35.88 seconds.

Sophomore Arik Seiler earned his first win of the evening with a winning time of 1:43.39 in the 200 free, while Wurm picked up his first individual win of the evening, clocking in at 52.90 in the 100 back. Seiler later won the 100 free in 47.59 seconds and 100 fly in 53.03. Carlson kept the winning streak alive with a victory in the 100 breastroke (59.99).

Continuing with the trend were Mark Nakanishi and Bryon Kallert, who were victorious in the 200 fly (1:57.83) and 200 back (1:55.06), respectively. Nakanishi earned another individual win with a winning time of 4:48.39 in the 500 free.

Peter Lo won two individual events against Dartmouth - the 200 breaststroke (2:14.69) and the 200 IM (1:59.97).

In the diving events, Andre Watson picked up two individual wins on the 1- and 3-meter boards with scores of 319.08 and 316.13, respectively.

The Terriers closed out their successful afternoon with a win in the 200 free relay with a time of 1:27.19.

On the women’s side, Kinsella earned wins in the 200 free the 200 free (1:55.36), 100 free (54.00) and 200 IM (2:10.72). Sarah Doersam began her day with a win in the 200 fly (2:08.28), and then followed it up with a victory in the 200 back (2:10.29). Distance specialist Christina Ruggiero earned a first-place finish in the 1,000 free with a time of 10 minutes, 36.59 seconds and then picked up second-place honors in the 500 free (5:13.47.

Waresmith continued her dominance on both the 1- and 3-meter boards with 269.85 points and 304.88, respectively.

The women's squad returns to action on Saturday, Jan. 19, when it hosts New Hampshire and Northeastern at 1:30 p.m., while the men will return to the pool on Tuesday, Jan. 15 when it travels to Holy Cross for a 7:00 p.m. start time.
