.: Purdue Sweeps Michigan State

WEST LAFAYETTE, IN , January 12th, 2008

Purdue's men's and women's swimming and diving team both easily defeated Michigan State Saturday at the Boilermaker Aquatic Center.

The 12th-ranked Boilermaker men (5-2) defeated the Spartans, 181-119, while the women (3-6) won by a score of 186-112.

The Boilermakers combined to win all four relays and swept the diving events in addition to picking up 14 individual victories.

Lisa Butler led the women's team from the pool, winning the 100 (52.06) and 200 freestyle (1:51.90) and with the 400 free (3:29.98) and 200 medley (1:46.91). Shannon Grace also gave the Boilermakers a boost as she swept the breaststroke events with marks of 1:05.17 and 2:20.38.

Individual wins for the men were collected by Joe Colley (100 back), Aaron Koger (100 breast), Andrew Langenfeld (200 fly), Eddie Kenney (50 free) and Craig Thompson (500 free).

Freshman David Colturi was victorious off both springboards with scores
of 366.30 (3-m) and 335.78 (1-m). His 3-meter score marked a personal
best.

Ashley Karnes kept her 2008 springboard unbeaten streak alive with
271.20 points off the 1-meter and 320.03 off the 3-meter. Karnes also
won both events at last weekend's Georgia Invitational.

Purdue returns to action next Saturday at home for a 2 p.m. co-ed dual
with Miami University.
