Louisville Sweeps Cincinnati
Cincinnati, OH , January 12th, 2008
The University of Louisville swimming and diving teams came off their
month-long break to beat BIG EAST rival Cincinnati Bearcats by winning
26 of 32 events. The men won 187-95 with the women prevailing 211-95.
“This was a god meet after not competing for the last month,” said
U of L swim coach Arthur Albiero. “Clearly we are much farther along
as a team than we were a year ago. Cincinnati is always a tough
opponent.”
The women were led by Anna Dishuck who won three events, touching first
in the 200-free, the 100-free, and the 50-free. Newcomer Therese
Bergstrom won her debut with firsts in the 100- and 200-breast. Leslie
Van Winkle added to the point total with wins in the 200-fly and the
400-IM. Other winners for the women include Sarah Andrews in the
1650-free, Alana Berrocal in the 100-back, Nicole Cindric in the
200-back and Nicole Landisch in the 100-fly.
The men were led by double winner Andrei Radzionau who place first in
the 200-free and the 100-free. Shane Lichtenberg touched first in the
grueling 1650-free and then came back for the win in the 500-free.
Other winners include Carolos Van Isschot in the 100-back, Vali Preda in
the 100-breast, Adam Madarassy in the 200-fly and Andrei Teudean in the
200-back.
For the divers, Robbie Lewis swept the 1-meter and 3-meter boards, with
Sarah Sandroni taking the 1-meter board for the women.
“This was a dominant performance against a team that normally gives
us a lot of trouble,” said Albiero. “Hopefully, we can ride some
momentum into our next meet at Notre Dame.”
