.: NAIA Dives into First Day

San Antonio, TX , February 27th, 2008

The first day of the 52nd annual NAIA Championships is in the books. The league, which has grown significantly over the past season got a jump on things with women's one- and men's three-meter springboard. After the first day of competition the Asbury women lead the pack with 36 points, followed by defending champion Cal Baptist (14), British Columbia (15) and Lindenwood (14). On the men's side, Lindenwood boasts the lead with 31 points, 11 ahead of Cal Baptist. Illinois Tech rounds out the scoring with 17 points.

Caitlyn Taylor won the women's 1 meter springboard. The Senior bettered last year's 7th finish and edged CBU's Lindsey Cline for the title. Asbury's Ashley Poore, last year's runner-up finished third. On the men's side, CBU's Ben Wahlman successfully defended his title with IIT's Branden Toro again finishing second. Lindenwood took the next two spots with Derik Scott and John Toczek finishing third and fourth respectively.

The championships resume this morning with preliminary heats of the 500-yard freestyle, 200-yard Individual Medley, and 50-yard freestyle.
