The Virginia Tech men's and women's swimming and diving team traveled to neighbor Radford for the final dual meet of the regular season with the ACC Championships just around the corner. The men defeated Davidson, 135-80, and VMI, 137-80. The No. 23 nationally-ranked women earned victories over Davidson (128-96), Radford (140-65) and VMI (140-34).
The H2Okies placed first in 26 of 26 events. With the wins, the 2007-08 Nike Cup champion men's record improves to 12-3 (2-2 ACC), while the women see their record move up to 14-2 (3-1 ACC).
For the men, diver Mikey McDonald (Annandale, Va.) was the only multiple individual event winner as he won the 1-meter and 3-meter diving events. The highlight of the day came in the 200-yard freestyle relay when Tech's top two teams both broke the pool record time of 1:24.83 that was set in 2002 by James Madison. The team of Scott Beard (Chesterfield, Va.), Jake Bova (Roanoke, Va.), Ian deToll (Culpeper, Va.) and Richard Ulatowski (Hamden, Conn.) placed first at 1:22.57.
On the women's side, Allison Luttermoser (Mechanicsburg, Va.) won the 50 and 500 free, while Sara Smith (McGaheysville, Va.) took first in the 200 IM and 200 backstroke. Diver Sarah Milton (Plano, Texas) also won the 1-meter and 3-meter diving events.
