The University of Connecticut men’s swimming and diving team earned a pair of victories on Saturday afternoon with a 177-108 win over Georgetown and a 187-104 win over the Merchant Marine Academy. Meanwhile, the women’s swimming and diving team defeated the Hoyas by a 194-97 count as both teams celebrated Senior Day. The men’s team improves to 8-0 on the season while the women are 7-2.
Freshman Alex Davidson (Pointe-Claire, Quebec) was a triple winner for the men’s team as he won the 100 backstroke (52.20), 200 backstroke (1:53.56) and 500 freestyle (4:49.94).
Sophomore Stephen Ferreira (Madison, Conn.) won both the one-meter and three-meter diving events. He set a school record in the three-meter event with 345.30 points while he won the one-meter with 296.60 points. The former school record was held by T.J. Ferguson with 348.60 points.
Freshman Tomasz Sobek (Siemianowice Slaskie, Poland) was a double-winner in the 100 breaststroke (1:07.49) and the 200 breaststroke (2:08.54).
On the women’s side, there were five double winners. Senior Courtney Haney (Mesa, Ariz.) won the 100 breast (1:07.49) and the 200 IM (2:10.15) while senior Emily Karel (Bethesda, Md.) won the 100 freestyle (54.08) and the 200 freestyle (1:55.49).
Junior Lisa Shelps (Quakertown, Pa.) won the 50 freestyle (24.63) and 500 freestyle (5:03.56) while senior Jordan Zarin (Rockville, Md.) won the 100 fly (59.52) and 200 fly (2:08.70).
In diving, junior Liza Marianni (Cherry Hill, N.J.) won both the one-meter (293.95 points) and three-meter events (345.30).
