The No. 8 University of Minnesota women’s swimming and diving team arrived in West Lafayette, Ind. and competed in the second day of the Quad Duals, today against Illinois and Purdue. The Golden Gophers did not count points against Wisconsin, but defeated both the Illini (140-37) and the Boilermakers (120-64) in dual action.

Minnesota started the day taking the top two spots in the 200 medley relay. Minnesota’s Roxane Akradi, Jillian Tyler, Kaylee Jamison and Stacy Busack combined for a time of 1:43.15 to win the event. Minnesota’s B relay of Deidre DeWall, Alicia Jensen, Danielle Ridder and Meredith McCarthy edged out Wisconsin for second overall by 0:00.03 to finish with a time of 1:46.09, while the Badgers’ B relay finished in 1:46.12.

The Gophers continued their winning ways when Yuen Kobayashi won the 1,000 free in a time of 9:53.66, while Christine Jennings took fourth in 10:09.91. Courtney Veerman also competed in the event and placed eighth overall in 10:29.40. Stacy Busack led the Maroon and Gold in the 50 free when she touched the wall in 23.70 for second overall. Alison Eggers and Erin Holtmeyer took seventh and eighth overall in times of 24.07 and 24.10. Akradi placed third in the 100 back with a time of 56.47, followed by DeWall in fifth (57.33) and Castina Wabeke in sixth (57.68).

Minnesota earned its third event win when the Gophers took the top three spots in the 200 breaststroke. Tyler won the event with an impressive time of 2:13.12, which was an automatic qualifying time. Tyler, however, set a school record earlier this season with a time of 2:10.44 at the Ohio State Invite (11/30). Kait Strickland placed second in 2:18.44, while Jensen earned a time of 2:18.77 for third overall.

Freshmen Kaylee Jamison and Megan Braun led the Gophers in the 100 fly when they took third and fourth in the 100 fly. Jamison finished third in 56.52, while Braun added a time of 56.71. Ridder placed eighth overall with a time of 58.00. Kobayashi placed second in the 200 free to lead the Gophers with a time of 1:51.58. McCarthy followed with a time of 1:53.41, good enough for sixth overall. Jenny Shaughnessy and Strickland combined for the top two spots in the 400 individual medley. Shaughnessy won the event with a time of 4:19.25, while Strickland placed second in 4:21.02.

Jacqueline Schroeder won the platform diving event with a score of 269.25. Alex Barstad followed in fifth place (230.90), while Hillary Provo placed sixth overall (194.10). Maggie Thomas led the Gophers in the 1-meter event when she finished second with a score of 264.25.
