The Class of 2008 Princeton men's swimming and diving team will graduate without ever knowing what it's like to lose a dual meet at DeNunzio Pool. The Tigers, led by double-winner Doug Lennox, defeated Columbia 171-121 in their regular-season finale and will now focus on the EISL championships March 6-8 at Harvard.
The foursome of Lennox, George Rae-Grant, Michael Carter and Geoff Faux led off the evening with a win in the 200 medley relay (1:31.95), while Robert Griest got the individual competition off on the right foot with a seven-second victory in the 1000 free (9:16.26).
Sophomore Chris Quemana edged classmate Jon Hartmann to win the 200 free in 1:39.80, and yet another sophomore, A.J. Walker posted a winning time of 51.72 in the 100 back. Junior John LaMonaca topped Rae-Grant to win the 100 breast in a time of 57.27, and Lennox won his first of two events with a time of 1:47.95 in the 200 fly.
A freshman battle between Faux and Alex Verdegem shaped up in the 50 free. Faux took the win in 20.76, while his classmate took second in 20.87. The 100 free would go to Lennox, who topped Hartmann with a time of 45.64.
A.J. Walker won the 200 back in 1:50.88, and Carter won the 100 fly in 49.70. The 3-meter diving competition went to Princeton's Michael Papageorge, whose 372.45 points put him ahead of second-place Stuart Malcolm and third-place Dan Dickerson. Papageorge would also post the high score on the 1-meter board with 321.74 points, although he did it as an exhibition event because the team outcome had been decided.
