.: Denison Men And Kenyon Women Retain Lead After Second Day Of Competition at NCAC Championships

The Denison men and Kenyon women retained their hold on first place after the second day of competition at the North Coast Athletic Conference Swimming & Diving Championships. The Big Red won two of eight events this evening to bring their total score to 1,156 point, while the Ladies claimed three events, including a tie in the women’s 100 backstroke, to lift their two-day total to 1,099.
Overall, the Big Red men claimed 14 top-five finishes. Kenyon sits in second with 1,126 points, followed by Wabash (748) in third and Wooster (521) in fourth. Wittenberg is fifth with 501 points.
The Ladies collected 15 top-five finishes on the night. Denison is second with 1,098 points and Allegheny (545.5) is third. Wooster (528.5) finished the night in fourth place, followed by Oberlin (425) in fifth.
Individually, Denison’s Liv Zaleski established a new championship record with her winning time of 55.31 in the women’s 100 butterfly. The time also met the automatic qualifying standard for the NCAA Division III Championship. The Kenyon women’s 800 free relay team of Kate Coker, Katie Meirs, Tina Ertel, Danielle Arad also set a record, and qualified for the national meet, with a time of 7:34.80.
The 2008 NCAC Swimming & Diving Championships continue through tomorrow evening. Preliminary events start at 10:00 a.m., while finals begin at 6:20 p.m. with the annual Senior Recognition Ceremony. Swimming events will begin at 6:30 p.m.
