Eastern Michigan Men, Michigan Women Lead EMU Invite Day One

The Eastern Michigan University men’s swimming and diving team sits in first place after the first day of the EMU Invitational, Friday, Dec. 5 at Jones Natatorium. The Eagles have accumulated 354 points after eight events.
EMU sits in first place with 354 points while Wayne State is behind the home team with 279 points. Kalamazoo sits in third with 225 and Findlay is fourth with 62 points.
Derick Roe (Sidney, Ohio-Sidney) and Ethan Crabtree (Wooster, Ohio-Wooster) took the first two spots in the 100 freestyle to give the Eagles their first victory of the afternoon. EMU hit its stride after that, winning the rest of the events.
The Eagles took the top four places in the 200 breaststroke, led by Don Ellison’s (King City, Ont.-King City Secondary) first place finish. Ryan Fulkerson (South Lyon, Mich.-South Lyon) hit the wall first in the 200 fly, followed by the 400 freestyle relay team taking home first place honors.
The EMU Invitational continues tomorrow, Dec. 6 at 10 a.m. The evening session is set to begin at 6 p.m. from Jones Natatorium.The Eastern Michigan University women’s swimming and diving team sits in second place by only four points after the first session of the EMU Invitational, Friday, Dec. 5. EMU trails the No. 14 University of Michigan, 297-293.
U-M is leading after day one, followed by EMU, Wayne State (199), Toledo (174), Kalamazoo (61), Northern Michigan (27) and Findlay (24).
Alissa Ricard (Tucson, Ariz.-Catalina Foothills) hit the wall second in the 100 free, before Ashley Durand (Lincoln, Neb.-Southeast) captured the 200 breaststroke. Elisa Torres (Antioch, Calif.-Deer Valley) followed that up with another runner-up finish for the Eagles, placing second in the 200 fly. The 400 freestyle team ended the day with a second place showing, placing the Eagles only four points behind the Wolverines.
The EMU Invitational concludes tomorrow, Dec. 6, with the morning session beginning at 10 a.m. The evening session is slated to begin at 6 p.m. from Jones Natatorium.
