Carleton Picks Up Three Victories In Florida

December 14th, 2008

Knights Win Double Dual
In their lone competition during winter break, the Knights swam a double dual against Rollins College and Olivet College with fantastic results. The Carleton women remain undefeated in dual meet competition and won both meets, beating both Rollins (a Division II program), 94-28, and Olivet, 87-35. The Knights were first to the wall in 12 of the 14 events.

Between both the Carleton men’s and women’s teams, over 80 percent of the swims resulted in season-best performances, 35 out of a 43. That figure is impressive given that the teams had trained with a high level of volume over the previous 10 days.

Leading the way for the Knights on this day were the trio of Alexander sisters, as each posted a pair of victories, including a top time in the MIAC this season.

Senior Becky Alexander (Tigard, Ore./Tualatin) won the 100 freestyle with a conference-best time of 54.10. She also prevailed in the 50 freestyle, swam on the winning 200 medley relay and finished second in the 50 backstroke.

Junior Kate Alexander (Tigard, Ore./Tualatin) notched the MIAC’s top time in the 100 breaststroke at 1:08.73, finished first in the 100 medley, participated in the winning 200 medley relay and placed third in the 50 backstroke.

Not to be outdone, the youngest of the group, Maggie Alexander (Fr./Tigard, Ore./Tualatin), now possesses the MIAC’s top time in the 200 freestyle, won the 500 freestyle, and swam on the victorious 200 freestyle relay.

Other winners for Carleton include Mia Zutz (Jr./Middleton, Wis.) in the 50 breaststroke, Kaarin Taylor (Sr./Gainesville, Fla.) in the 100 butterfly, Kale Zicafoose (So./Omaha, Neb./Westside) in the 100 backstroke and Louise Buckler (So./Blaine, Minn./St. Paul Academy) in the 50 butterfly.

It will be nearly a month before the Knights face competition again. Their next meet is against Saint Mary’s University and Luther College on Saturday, Jan. 10 in Winona, Minn.
