August 25th, 2008

Millikin University Athletic Director Joe Hakes is pleased to announce that former Big Blue swimming standout Paul Yemm has been named the new head coach for the Millikin men’s and women’s swimming program.

Yemm most recently served as the Head Coach of the Decatur Swim Club youth swimming program.  He was also an assistant coach for the Big Blue during the 2007-2008 season.  Yemm served Millikin as the Interim Head Coach of the swimming program from November 2006 to June 2007.

"Paul's a great choice," said Greg Earhart of conference rival Carthage College.  "He's loyal to the school, knows his stuff and going to bring success and stability to Millikin."

During his college career, Yemm was a four-year letter winner for Millikin.  He was named the team’s Most Valuable Swimmer during his senior year and was a three-time NCAA qualifier.  As a senior, he placed 18th in the 200 fly event at the NCAA Division III National Championships.  He also completed in the 50 free and 100 fly that year at nationals.  During his junior season in 2004-05, Yemm earned Honorable Mention All American honors for this 14th place finish in the 200 fly.  As a freshman, he swam the 200IM, 100 fly and 200 fly at the NCAA Championships.

Yemm was named the CCIW’s Most Outstanding Male Swimmer as a sophomore and won five CCIW titles, including four straight in the 200 fly.  His freshman season time of 1:52.72 set a new Millikin and CCIW record.  In addition to his record in the 200 fly, Yemm was a member of the Big Blue’s 200 and 400 medley relay teams that set new Millikin records in 2004-05.

Yemm graduated from Millikin in December 2006 with a degree in Chemistry with a business emphasis.  Yemm is originally from Sterling and is a graduate of Sterling High School.
