.: Ventura Extends Western States Lead

Meet Results

Day two of the Western States Conference Championships are in the books, but not before Ventura College made some changes to those books.

The Pirates established five new meet records, including new marks in all four relays.  Ventura appear ready to sweep both the men's and women's meets.  On the women's side the Pirates lead with 551.5 points, followed by Cuesta at 422.5, Santa Monica with 368, Bakersfield with 258, Citrys at 235, LA Valley with 206, Canyons with 185 and LA Pierce at 32.  The Pirates' lead is wider on the men's side.  Through two days Ventura has tallied 629 points to Cuesta's 418, Citrus' 289, LA Valley's 234, Santa Monica at 216, Bakersfield at 206, LA Pierce with 179 and Canyons at 141.

Rafael Aponte had the biggest day of the meet as he established a new meet record in the 100-yard butterfly (49.75) and had a hand in new meet records in the 200-yard Medley Relay (1:35.21) and 800-yard Freestyle Relay (7:00.10).  Ventura also broke meet records in the women's 200-yard Medley Relay (1:54.31) and 800-yard Freestyle Relay (8:02.26).

Other winners included Ventura's Michelle Kroll in the 200-yard Individual Medley (2:17.62) and Chris Spriggs in the men's 400-yard Individual Medley (4:17.89).  Santa Monica's Lysa Carter-Aaron won the 50-yard butterfly (27.77) while Katherin Fung of Ventura claimed the 200-yard freestyle (1:56.74).  The men's 200-yard freestyle was won by Travis Bishop of Santa Monica (1:44.93).  Amanda Takahashi from Cuesta won the 50-yard Breaststroke (31.87) and Zach Epperson from Ventura won the 100-yard breaststroke (59.13).  In the backstroke events Allison Duran from Bakersfield won the 50-yard (28.54) and Tyler McClure from Ventura won the 100-yard.

The Championships conclude tomorrow in Ventura.  The top-sixteen finalists in each event will qualify for the CCCAA Championships at Saddleback.
