.: Bailey Resigns from CSUB

Bakersfield, CA , April 14th, 2008

California State University, Bakersfield men’s swimming Head Coach Morgan Bailey has resigned his position effective next week, citing the desire to pursue a career within the Federal Bureau of Investigation. With the arduous application and acceptance process now complete, Bailey and his family will relocate to Quantico, Va., where he will begin training to become a Special Agent at the FBI Academy, located on the United State Marine Corps Base.

“I am grateful to CSUB for the opportunity to have coached these young men over the past two years,” said Bailey. “This was where my collegiate swimming career began and this will be the last place that I serve as a collegiate coach and I couldn’t be more proud of that.”

“The university thanks Morgan for his two seasons serving as the head of our men’s swimming program,” said Athletics Director Rudy Carvajal. “While he will be missed, we are extremely happy that he has been granted the opportunity to pursue a lifelong dream.”

Bailey, a Roadrunner swimmer from 1989-91 and an NCAA Division II All-American, took over as the head of the program in September 2006. He led the ‘Runner squad through their first two years of the transition to Division I, which concluded with a number of standout performances at the Conference USA Championships this March.

“The transition so far has been successful,” said Bailey. “We have improved academically and we’ve had a good showing athletically, including winning an individual title (at the C-USA Championships) and I believe the program will continue to improve and be competitive.”

A nationwide search to fill the position will begin immediately.
