Delia Detours to Randolph-Macon

Randolph-Macon College Director of Athletics Denis Kanach announced Wednesday the hiring of Ben Delia as the new head coach of its defending Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) championship women’s swimming team.  Delia assumes the reins from Dave Holland who stepped down in the spring.

Delia comes to the Yellow Jackets program after a brief stint at Morrisville State College.  He was hired as the head men's and women's coach and aquatic director in this summer.  Prior to that, Delia was the assistant swimming and diving coach at Trinity College and acted as the meet director for home meets at the Natatorium.

“We are pleased to have Ben Delia leading our defending ODAC championship swim program.” said Kanach. “Ben has experience as a swimmer and a coach at the DIII level in programs that are our academic peers. He understands the balance of academic and athletic commitment needed to be successful.”

During his time at Trinity, Delia assisted in all phases of the Bantams swimming and diving program, including on deck coaching, recruiting, team travel, fundraising and other administrative duties. Delia helped Trinity to six dual meet wins in 2006-07 and guided swimmers to a host of school and freshmen records while assisting four swimmers to USA Sectional qualifying times.

As a student-athlete, Delia was a member of the New England Small College Athletic Conference (NESCAC) all-league team and was a championship finalist on several occasions.

Delia is a native of Oswego, New York and graduated from Hamilton in May of 2005 with a Bachelor of Arts degree and a concentration in economics.A 2005 graduate of Hamilton College with a degree in economics, Delia was a four-year member of the Continentals swim team where he was a NESCAC all-Conference team and championship finalist.

Since 1988, Delia was a member of the Oswego Laker Swim Club and YMCA swim team where he was a US Open qualifier, USA sectionals competitor and YMCA national competitor.

In 2005 Delia founded TRI2 Coaching to guide triathlon athletes by creating personalized training plans to fit their individual needs and goals. To date he has served as the head coach of TRI2 Coaching, coaching athletes to age group wins, national championship qualification and several course records.
