.: Pinno Leads Towson to Win Over Howard

Towson, MD , October 6th, 2007

Junior Eric Pinno (Leonardtown H.S./California, Md.) won a pair of individual events and was a member of two winning relay teams as Towson University (1-0) opened its season with a 146-51 victory over Howard University (0-1) in a non-conference meet at the Tigers’ Burdick Pool on Saturday afternoon.

Pinno finished first in the 50-yard freestyle with a time of 21.33 seconds before taking first place in the 100-yard butterfly, completing the race in a time of 51.60 seconds. He also swam the anchor leg of the Tigers’ 200-yard medley relay team, which finished in a time of 1:37.66, and on the victorious 200-yard freestyle relay team.

Junior Ryan Godfrey (Anderson H.S./Anderson, Ind.) also earned a pair of individual victories in the meet, taking first place in the 200-yard freestyle (1:45.40) and the 500-yard freestyle (4:48.62). Junior Gordon Amato (Mount St. Joseph H.S./Hanover, Md.) took first place in the 200-yard backstroke (1:56.39) and the 100-yard breaststroke (1:00.29).

Making their college debuts, freshmen Tyler Henderson (Gov. Thomas Johnson H.S./Frederick, Md.) and Zac Jelinek (Media Providence H.S./Malvern, Pa.) also earned victories in the meet.

Sophomore Miguel Orellena (Sidwell Friends H.S./Washington, D.C.) led the Bison in the loss by finishing in first place in the 1000-yard freestyle with a time of 10:12.87.
