In the women’s voting the Tigers lead a strong contingent of ranked teams from the Southeastern Conference, which is represented by five squads among the nation’s Top 25. Two other conferences, the Pac 10 and the Big 10, also have five ranked teams. The Pac 10 leader at this point of the season is the Stanford Cardinal (#2, 1-0) while Minnesota is currently the top ranked team in the Big 10 (#9, 0-1).
While the Longhorns sit atop the men’s poll, the Big 10 Conference, which has seven teams in all, has the most ranked teams within the Top 25. The #5 Michigan Wolverines (1-0) are the most highly ranked team in the league. The SEC has five teams in the Top 25, with the #2Auburn Tigers leading the way.
This year’s poll will be published eight times and the champions will be crowned on February 27, 2008. Pollsters representing eight conferences along with two at-large voters have the task of ranking the top dual meet teams in the nation bi-weekly throughout the season. Additionally, the group of pollsters is completely different for the men’s and women’s rankings. This poll should not be confused with the results of the NCAA Division I Swimming & Diving championships that will take place in March.
The next poll results will be released on November 1, 2007.
