.: Towson Splits with Old Dominion

Towson, MD , October 20th, 2007

Starting on the men's side, Freshman Mikael Ramkvist (Bjarred, Sweden) won two individual events to lead Old Dominion University (2-0) to a 171-129 victory over Towson University (1-2) in a Colonial Athletic Association men’s swimming and diving dual meet at the Tigers’ Burdick Pool on Saturday afternoon.

Ramkvist took first place in the 100-yard backstroke with a time of 52.95 seconds in addition to a first place finish in the 200-yard backstroke, completing the race in a time of 1:53.78. He also helped the Monarchs finish second in the 200-yard freestyle relay as Towson won the event with a time of 1:27.45.
Sophomore Chad Gangwer (Cox H.S./Virginia Beach, Va.) took first place in the 200-yard freestyle with a time of 1:43.92 while freshman Josh Kinas (Herndon H.S./Reston, Va.) won the 100-yard breaststroke with a time of 59.43 seconds. Sophomore Kevin Latimer (Denbigh H.S./Newport News, Va.) won the 200-yard butterfly with a time of 1:55.53.

Senior Noah Scully (Salem H.S./Virginia Beach, Va.), who was named as the CAA Diver of the Week last week, won both diving events, scoring 293.85 points on the one-meter board and 279.67 points on the three-meter board.

Junior Eric Pinno (Leonardtown H.S./California, Md.) led the Tigers in the loss by finishing first in three individual events. He recorded a time of 21.28 seconds in the 50-yard freestyle before earning a time of 46.63 seconds in the 100-yard freestyle. Pinno also finished first in the 100-yard butterfly with a time of 51.12 seconds and helped the Tigers finish first in the 200-yard freestyle relay.

Junior Ryan Godfrey (Anderson H.S./Anderson, Ind.) took first place in the 1000-yard freestyle by turning in a time of 9:55.07 while junior Gordon Amato (Mt. St. Joseph H.S./Hanover, Md.) earned first place in the 400-yard individual medley with a time of 4:14.12. Amato also took second place in the 200-yard breaststroke (2:12.94).  

On the women's side, Sophomore Christina Bowman (St. John’s College H.S./Silver Spring, Md.) won two individual events and was a member of a winning relay team as Towson University (3-0) earned its third straight win with a 197-96 victory over Old Dominion University (2-1) in a Colonial Athletic Association women’s swimming and diving meet at the Tigers’ Burdick Pool on Saturday afternoon.

It was the Tigers’ eighth straight dual meet victory, dating back to last season.
Bowman earned a victory in the 1000-yard freestyle with a personal-best time of 10:20.39 before posting a time of 59.97 seconds in the 100-yard butterfly. She also swam the anchor leg of the 200-yard freestyle relay team, which finished in first place with a time of 1:38.23.

Freshman Meredith Budner (Walter Johnson H.S./Rockville, Md.) finished first in the 400-yard individual medley by setting a Towson freshman record with a time of 4:29.34, which was 0.2 seconds shy of the overall school mark. Sophomore Hillary Rieveley (Wyomissing H.S./Wyomissing, Pa.) earned first place in the 200-yard butterfly by completing the race in 2:11.52 while helping the Tigers win both relay events.
Freshman Kayla Zeller (Hempfield H.S./Landisville, Pa.) took first place in the 200-yard freestyle with a time of 1:55.73 while junior Katie Nguyen (South River H.S./Edgewater, Md.) finished first in the 100-yard freestyle by touching the wall in 54.80 seconds.

Sophomore Jessica Etzler (Walkersville H.S./Walkersville, Md.) won both diving events, scoring 216.75 points on the one-meter board and 220.80 points on the three-meter board.

The Lady Monarchs were led by freshman Caroline Larsson (Trelleborg, Sweden), who finished first in the 500-yard freestyle (5:08.42) and second in the 1000-yard freestyle (10:29.63).
