.: LSU's Kevin Braud Named SEC Male Swimmer of the Week

Birmingham, AL , October 16th, 2007

LSU senior swimmer Kevin Braud was named Southeastern Conference Male Swimmer of the Week for his efforts in the Tigers? win at South Carolina, the league office announced on Tuesday.

Braud, a native of Destrehan, La., won two individual events and helped LSU claim the 400 medley relay in the Tigers? 204.5-94.5 victory over the Gamecocks last Saturday in Columbia, S.C.

Braud swept the backstroke events as he swam 50.70 to win the 100 back and 1:52.42 to win the 200 back. He currently holds the fastest 100 back time in the league, which he recorded versus Stanford on Sept. 14 (50.54). Braud?s 200 back clocking represents the fourth best mark in the SEC.

Braud led off the winning 400 medley relay that posted a time of 3:26.24 for the current second fastest time in the league. That clocking trails only Georgia by .13 seconds for top honors in the SEC.

Braud becomes the second LSU male swimmer to earn the honor in the head coach Adam Schmitt era and the first since Julius Gloeckner did so Jan. 17, 2007. Braud is one of several U.S. Olympic Trial qualifiers on the Tiger team this season.

Braud and the rest of the Tigers play host to Georgia in their SEC home opener this Friday, Oct. 19 at 2 p.m. in the LSU Natatorium. Admission is free. Free t-shirts, posters and schedule cards will be available to fans. The first 250 people in attendance receive LSU-Georgia commemorative programs.
