After taking the 2007 Missouri Valley Conference team title, Salukis Head Coach Rick Walker wants to take the 2008 championship as well. In order to do that a young Southern Illinois squad will have to make up for the losses of Conference Champions Nora Bunford, Gaby Flores, and Rachel Winius and diver Cristina Curtanuneau. The team does return 9 of its 12 All-MVC selections from the 2006/2007 season. Coach Walker believes that this season’s team will be very balanced saying, “With our team personnel, we have found that we rely on each and every team member”.

The Purple Aces are going to look like a new team this year after losing eight seniors to graduation. The returning upperclassmen will be led by seniors Taryn Brelage, Melissa Claycomb, Ashli Heck, Nicole Uhrin, and Colleen Ward. Brelage was named to the 2005 and 2006 All-MVC honorable mention teams. Heck will be the top returning distance swimmer for Evansville. Ward comes back as the Purple Aces best sprint freestyler, setting the teams best times in the 100 and 200 free events last season. The squad will welcome ten freshmen who will be expected to help make contributions this year.

The Redbirds lose All-Conference selections Jamie Haseman and Kyle Pullman to graduation and will need underclassmen to step up to try to replace them. The returning upperclassmen will be led by All-MVC honorees Becky Layman (IM), Tracy Deyell (Fly/Breast/IM), and divers Katie Janonis and Katelyn Prorok. The team added eight new members to their roster this season who should help on both the swimming and diving sides.

The Bears will miss All-MVC performers Kyla Meuer and Allison Zeller, who combined for four event titles at the 2007 MVC championships. Head Coach Jack Steck will look at his seven returning All-Conference honorees to lead the way this season. Leading the returners will be two individual MVC event champions: Jordan Hawkins, 50 free, and Andi Rojas, 200 IM. Hawkins and Rojas will be joined by Jessica Bennett, Amy Crowder, Fran Moody, Betsy Solari, and Mantana Wellman who all are coming off strong seasons.

Northern Iowa is coming off a banner season in which the team set six new school records, had a swimmer named to the All-MVC team, and Head Coach Stacey Simmer was named MVC Coach of the Year. Coach Simmer will look for her squad to move up in conference rankings this season. All-Conference performer, Abby Girard, returns and will try to improve upon her conference runner-up finish in the 200 back. The team will also return Ally Green who participated for the United States this past summer at the Triathlon World Championships which were held in Hamburg, Germany.
