The University of Miami swimming and diving team improved to 5-1 on the season with a 165.5-132.5 win over in-state opponent Florida Atlantic Friday afternoon at the Norman Whitten Student Union Pool.
Annika Saarnak, Britta Boesing and Kelly Peloquin all came away with two victories apiece for UM while Brittany Viola also won twice in sweeping both diving events on the afternoon.
Saarnak's first win of the day came in the 200-yard freestyle event, when she came in at 1:53.44 before she later won the 100-yard freestyle event in a time of 51.20. Boesing took home the 100-yard backstroke event (57.04) and the 200-yard IM (2:04.74) while Peloquin clinched wins in the 100- and 200-yard breaststroke events with times of 1:05.59 and 2:23.23 respectively.
Kirsten Pomerleau and Capria DeVenuto also picked up wins for UM with Pomerleau coming in at 23.98 in the 50-yard free and DeVenuto winning the 200-yard butterfly by nearly two seconds, finishing in 2:07.48.
Viola, going up against five divers from FAU, won the one-meter event with a score of 296.10 and the three-meter event with a mark of 287.85.
The Hurricanes also came away with wins in both relay events. After picking up a win in the 200-yard medley relay, the Miami finished first again in the 200-yard freestyle relay in a time of 1:36.52.
Miami will now begin preparation for next week's Georgia Tech Invitational where UM will go up against Florida State, Duke, N.C. State, FAU and host Georgia Tech at the Georgia Tech Aquatics Center.
