BETHLEHEM, PA , November 4th, 2007

The Colgate women's swimming team opened the Patriot League portion of its schedule with a split in a double dual meet on Saturday, Nov. 3. The Raiders defeated host Lehigh, 151-72, but lost to league favorite Navy, 150-87.

Junior Emily Murphy (Syracuse, N.Y.) won the 100 free with a time of 52.60, and classmate Ashley Bottger (Weston, Conn.) was third, finishing in 53.52. Murphy was the runner-up in the 50 free, posting a time of 24.36.

Freshman Erin McGraw (Penfield, N.Y.) won the 200 fly with a time that was just 0.03 seconds off the school record, 2:04.37. Classmate Emily Kelly (Potomac, Md.) was third with a time of 2:10.59.

Junior Beverly Walker (Marietta, Ga.) won the 200 back, posting a time of 2:07.74. She took third place in the 200 free behind a pair of swimmers from Navy, Allison Ranzau and Sarah Dorenkott, with a time of 1:57.25.

For the first time in her college career, freshman Caren Guyett (Yorktown Heights, N.Y.) did not win the 1000 free. Instead, she finished a close second to Navy's Tara Chapmon wth a time of 10:24.77, just 0.45 seconds off her Colgate record-setting performance in the season-opener.

Colgate took two of the top three spots in the 200 IM and 500 free. McGraw was second in the 200 IM with a time of 2:09.01, while Guyett was third, touching the wall in 2:11.81. Guyett was second in the 500 free, posting a time of 5:05.90, and Kelly was third, finishing in 5:15.26.

Colgate opened the meet with a second-place finish in the 200 medley relay. The Raider foursome of Kelly, sophomores Alaina Sullivan (Shaker Heights, Ohio) and Kate Murphy (Williamsburg, Va.), and Bottger was only bested by the quad from Navy.

The Raiders were second and third in the 400 free relay. The "A" relay, anchored by Emily Murphy, earned a time of 3:33.00, less than two seconds off the pace set by the Navy quartet.

Colgate is back on the road next weekend when it visits Dartmouth on Sunday, Nov. 11, for a noon meet.

Raider Men Lose at Lehigh, 160-71, in Swimming

BETHLEHEM, Pa. (11/3/07) - The Colgate men's swimming team lost its first Patriot League meet of the season at Lehigh, 160-71, on Saturday, Nov. 3.

Freshman Trevor Healy (New Canaan, Conn.) earned a win in the 1000 free, after placing in the top three in each of his first three college meets in the event. Healy swam a personal-best time of 10:00.21, which ranks 10th on Colgate's all-time performers list.

The other Healy twin, Devon, posted a second-place finish in the 200 IM, turning in a time of 2:02.60. Classmate Peter Coulson (Pittsburgh, Pa.) was just 0.07 seconds behind him to claim third. Devon Healy later finished third in the 200 breast with a time of 2:19.04.

The Raiders won the final event of the day, the 400 free relay, in 3:14.54. The relay consisted of junior George Bennitt (West Chester, Pa.), senior Zach Whitman (Pittsford, N.Y.), sophomore Cameron Voell (Little Silver, N.J.), and freshman Tucker Gniewek (Mountain Lakes, N.J.)

Colgate also put two in the top three of the 200 fly. Whitman was second with a time of 2:01.48, while sophomore Robert Rutkowski (Lititz, Pa.) came in just 0.13 seconds behind him in third.

Gniewek finished a close second to Lehigh's Daniel Johnson in the 50 free, posting a time of 22.04. Classmate Nick Amato (East Norwich, N.Y.) was third in the 500 free, clocking in at 4:55.12.

Colgate came in third in the meet-opening 200 medley relay, with the foursome of Coulson, Devon Healy, Whitman, and junior Dan Lathrop (Westerly, R.I.) turning in a time of 1:41.09.

The Raiders are back on the road next weekend when they visit Dartmouth on Sunday, Nov. 11, for a noon meet.
