The UC San Diego men’s and women’s swimming teams competed in a close meet against Cal State Bakersfield on Saturday afternoon on the CSUB campus. The UCSD women’s team won 9-of-16 events and defeated the Roadrunners 159-136. On the men’s side, Dan Perdew and Todd Langland finished 1-2 in both the 50 and 100 free events, but it was not enough as the CSUB men defeated UCSD 165-125. Aubrey Panis scored several points for the Tritons as she won the 100 back, 100 free and was part of both the winning 400 medley and 400 free relay teams. Erin Deters and Kendall Bohn won two events apiece. The Triton men’s team was also victorious in the 400 free relay and Andrew Skewes won both diving events.
On the women’s side, UCSD’s 400 medley relay team of Panis, Bohn, Deters and Ashtyn Douglas raced to a time of 4:03.91 and a first place title. Also finishing first for UCSD was Douglas in the 200 free (1:58.49), Panis in the 100 back (59.69), the 100 free (54.03), Bohn in the 100 breast (1:09.19) and 200 breast (2:26.89), Deters in the 50 free (24.84) and 100 fly (1:00.15) and the 400 free relay team of Panis Douglas, Jessica Ferguson, Deters (3:41.83).
On the men’s side, Perdew and Langland finished 1-2 in the 50 free as Perdew raced to a time of 21.35 and Langland came in at 21.65. The Triton duo repeated the 1-2 performance in the 100 free as Perdew recorded a 47.58 time and Langland with a 47.95 time. Skewes won both diving events and the 400 free relay team of Perdew, J.P. Oliver, Brandon Maryatt, Langland finished first with a time of 3:08.64.
UCSD is back in action on November 10 when it takes on UC Santa Barbara and and Cal Poly on the UCSB campus at 12:00 p.m.
