.: Sunbelt Conference Honors Western Kentucky and Florida Atlantic Swimmers and Divers

After another competitive week of Sun Belt Conference swimming and diving WKU’s Sean Penhale and Florida Atlantic’s Lauren Shue have respectively been named the Sun Belt Male and Female Swimmers of the Week while WKU’s Emily Waits and Peyton Thomas have been named the Female and Male Divers of the Week.
Penhale competed in four events during the Hilltopper Invitational. For each event, Penhale claimed first and broke four Bill Powell Natatorium pool records. He helped the 800-yard Free Relay finish first in 6:51.20. He broke the 500 Free pool record in 4:32.04 and the 400 IM record in 4:01.49. His new pool record in the 1650 Free in 15:28.12 also made the NCAA ‘B’ provisional cut.
Shue swam two NCAA 'B' cut times and had three top-six finishes at the Georgia Tech Invite, which featured Florida State, LSU, Duke, Georgia Tech, NC State and Miami. Shue earned a third-place finish in the 500 free with a 'B' cut time of 4:53.43 which is the fastest time in the SBC by more than eight seconds. She picked up second place in the 1650 free with a 'B' cut time of 16:42.33, also the fastest time in the SBC. The Fort Myers, FL native also added a sixth place finish in the 200 free with a time of 1:51.86.
Meanwhile, Junior Waits won first place in the one-meter dive at the Hilltopper Invitational with her score of 253.60, which is the fourth- best time in school history. Waits finished third in the three-meter dive, totaling 249.50 points.
Finally, Thomas finished first in both the one-meter and three- meter diving events at the Hilltopper Invitational. His 329.40 score in the three-meter broke WKU’s school record. He also tallied 267.20 points in his first place finish in the one-meter.
The swimming and diving season continue this week with four teams getting into action. UALR will host the UALR Christmas Invite, Denver will take part in the Ohio State Invitational, WKU will participate in the UALR Invite and New Orleans will take on North Florida.
