Men’s Swimming and Diving

Dan Sivak (Hobart, Ind./Hobart H.S.) won three events but Valparaiso dropped a home meet on Saturday afternoon, falling to Western Illinois 145-91 at the Athletics-Recreation Center pool.
 
Sivak began the day with a half second victory in the 50 freestyle with a time of 21.85 seconds.  He added a 1.5 second win in the 100 free later in the afternoon before teaming with Dan Meals (Washington, Ill./Washington Community H.S.), Ed Standen (Saint Joseph, Mich./Saint Joseph H.S.), and Ansel Hillmer (Tampa, Fla./Hillsborough H.S.) to win the 400 freestyle relay to cap the meet in a time of 3:28.76.
 
Hillmer also earned a win for Valpo in the 100 butterfly with a time of 54.22 seconds.

Women’s Swimming and Diving

Despite victories in four events, Valparaiso came up on the short end of a 130-108 decision to Western Illinois on Saturday afternoon at the Athletics-Recreation Center pool.
 
The day started off on a strong note for the Brown and Gold as the 400 medley relay posted a victory.  Karen Berg (Glendale, Ariz./Deer Valley H.S.), Amy Andracki (Arlington Heights, Ill./Prospect H.S.), Rachel Majercik (Schaumburg, Ill./Conant H.S.), and Kati Smethurst (Grand Ledge, Mich./Grand Ledge H.S.) finished in a time of 4:09.80.
 
Jaclyn Krause (Rochester, Mich./Notre Dame Prep H.S.) added a victory in the 100 butterfly with a time of 54.28 seconds, posting a win by about three seconds.  Andracki also won the 100 breaststroke for the Crusader in a time of 1:08.06.
 
Valpo’s 400 free relay finished the meet on a positive note as Majercik, Smethurst, Grace Arnold (Glendora, Calif./Glendora H.S.), and Krause won in a time of 3:41.21.
