Wingate University defeated Limestone College in swimming on Friday night at the Timken Aquatic Center. The No. 20-ranked Bulldog men won 119-86 as the No. 22 Lady Bulldogs got a 128-68 victory. Tonight’s defeat marked the first of the season for Limestone’s men’s team (3-1 overall) as the Limestone women fall to 3-2. Three Limestone men’s swim records were broken in tonight’s effort.
Limestone took first in the men’s 400 medley relay as Anders Melin (Karlstad, Sweden), Chad McKenzie (Durban, South Africa), Matt Parsonage (Durban, South Africa), and Goran Majlat (Split, Croatia) posted a time of 3:31.06. This time set a new Limestone record.
Zeljko Karaman (Split, Croatia) had a commanding win in the 1000 free for Limestone and set a new school record with his time of 9:59.36. Craig Jordens (Cape Town, South Africa) won the 50 free (21:56) and the 100 free (47.43). His time in the 100 free broke his previous school record of 47.66 achieved earlier this season. McKenzie got a victory in the 200 breaststroke (2:11.25).
Limestone’s Marija Grubic (Split, Croatia) won the 1000 free with a time of 11:07.25 and got a victory in the 200 backstroke (2:12.31). Donna Wickham (Tacarigua, Trinidad & Tobago) finished first in the 50 free (26.58).
The Bulldogs’ Blake Wright (Jacksonville, Fla.) had a time 1:47.83 in the 200 free to take first. Kyle Corcoran (Kent, Wash.) swam the 400 individual medley in 4:05.22 to win and took first in the 500 free (4:44.40). Gustavo Chagas (Boa Viegem, Brazil) won the 200 fly (1:56.95). In the 200 back, Chagas won with a time of 2:01.11. Chagas, Daniel DeFrancisco (Cali, Colombia), Corcoran, and Mason Norman (Duluth, Ga.) took the 400 free relay with a time of 3:11.29.
Wingate won the women’s 400 medley relay (4:07.44) with the efforts of Nicole Moody (Grovetown, Ga.), Maria Vlashchenko (Habarovsk, Russia), Lara Golesorkhi (Stuttgart, Germany), and Henni Coetzer. Cheryl Vaccaro (Charlotte, N.C.), Rebekah Moody (Martinez, Ga.), Kelsey Trabue (South Lyon, Mich.), and Samantha Venci (Wickliffe, Ohio) won the 400 free relay (3:47.87).
The Bulldogs’ Trabue swam the 200 free in 2:02.86 to win and posted 5:24.60 in the 500 free for first. Vlashchenko won the 400 IM (4:38.59) and the 200 breaststroke (2:23.61). Ana Orzechowska (Toronto, Ontario, Canada) picked up a victory in the 200 fly with a time of 2:19.65. Vaccaro posted 56:56 for the win in the 100 free.
Both Limestone College swim teams travel to Savannah, Ga., on November 30-December 1 for the Savannah College of Art and Design Invitational.
