.: Hilltopper Invite Day One

Bowling Green, KY , November 16th, 2007

 The Western Kentucky University men’s and women’s swimming and diving teams both lead after day one of the Hilltopper  Invitational at the Bill Powell Natatorium.
    

The Lady Toppers are out in front with 319 points, followed by Evansville with 158 and Vanderbilt is in third at 138. The Hilltoppers scored 332 points for the day, Missouri-Rolla collected 155, and
Evansville has 153 points.
    

Of the 10 total events completed on day one, WKU placed first in nine of those races.
    

The women took the top nine spots in the 200-yard Individual  Medley with Claire Donahue placing first in 2:09.42. Kathryn Sutton  finished in second (2:09.49) followed by Kaitlyn Casper in third  (2:11.96). Jessica Aspinall won the 50-yard Free in 24.57 and Mallory  Neltner finished third in 25.25. Katie Taylor came in third in the 500
Free in 5:11.57.
    

The Lady Toppers also won the 200 Free Relay in 1:38.05 and the 400 Medley Relay in 3:51.80.
    

For the men, WKU won the 200 Free Relay in 1:24.82 and the 400 Medley Relay in 3:27.90. Sean Penhale took home the 500 Free in 4:32.04. The Toppers took the top three spots in the 200 IM with Greg Gerum winning the race in 1:51.74. Cameron Higdon placed second with a time of 1:57.55 and Sean Shannon came in third at 1:57.84. Francis Gilmore was victorious in the 50 Free (21.11), Brian Lewis finished
second (21.31), Lukasz Herbst was third (21.37), and Kevin Cargill came in fourth (21.49).
    

The action for day two gets started at 9 a.m. (CST) on Saturday (Nov. 17) with the final day of the event coming on Sunday.
