Meet Results

The UC Irvine/Nike Cup has concluded day one at Belmont Plaza Olympic Pool in Long Beach .

The Stanford men and the UCLA women lead the meet following the first day of the meet.  The Bruin women have  465 points to lead second place Brigham Young with 276 points. The Cardinal men have 597 points to lead second place BYU with 269 points.

The Stanford men's team broke the meet record in the 200 free relay with a NCAA 'B' cut time of 1: 19.71 to break the previous record of 1:19.78 set by UCLA in 1992. The Cardinal men dominated the 500 free with Danny Beal winning the event with a time of 4:21.41. David Mosko of Stanford took second with a 4:23.25. Beal and Mosko's times are each 'B' cuts. Nate Cass of Stanford won the 200 IM with a 'B' cut of 1: 47.47. Stanford again dominated the 50 free as Austin Staab won the event in a 'B' cut of 19.86. Jason Dunford (19.89) and David Dunford (20.44) took second and third in the event with Jason's time being another 'B' cut. The Cardinal men made it two for two in the relays as they won the 400 medley relay with a meet record and 'B' cut time of 3: 13.15.

On the women's side, UCLA got out to an early lead in the meet with a time of 1:34.13 in the 200 free relay. Brittany Massengale of Rice won the 500 free with a NCAA 'B' time of 4:53.69. Emily Bibb of UCLA took second in the 500 free, but had the fastest prelim time with a NCAA 'B' cut time of 4: 52.65. UC Irvine sophomore Lyndsay DePaul fell just two hundredths of a second shy of an 'A' cut with her winning time of 2:00.36 in the 200 IM. DePaul broke her own UCI record in the event. Ja-Neill Bragg of Pacific took second with a 'B' cut time of 2: 00.69. UC Irvine senior Chelsea Nagata won the 50 free (23.03) and was joined by Brie Marhenke of San Jose State (23.09), Jenny Lewis of Pacific (23.12) and Anna Poteete of UCLA (23.19) in earning 'B' cuts. Nagata also broke her own UCI record in the event. The Pacific women won the 400 medley relay with a time of 3: 46.46.

The UC Irvine/Nike Cup will continue Friday with prelims at 9:00 a.m. and finals at 6:00 p.m. at Belmont Plaza Olympic Pool in Long Beach.
