.: Four Freshmen Take Home America East Swimming and Diving Performer of the Week Honors

Cambridge, MA , November 13th, 2007

UMBC's Brad Reitz and University of Vermont's Kate Weaver earned weekly honors as America East Men's and Women's Swimming Performers of the Week, while UMBC's Mike Morabito and Crystal Gall were named America East Men's and Women's Diving Performers of the Week. The conference made the announcement on Tuesday afternoon for the week ending November 12.

Freshman Reitz (Ellicott City, Md./Howard) was a part of four of the Retrievers' 14 victories as they rolled over Towson, 160-107, last Saturday. The freshman turned in winning times of 51.89 and 1:57.06 in the 100- and 200-yard butterfly events to lead Retriever sweeps in both events and also swam legs on the winning 200 medley and 400 free relays, which turned in times of 1:36.45 and 3:10.99. Reitz is unbeaten in the 100 butterfly this season, recording first place victories on four different occasions.

Freshman Weaver (South Burlington, Vt./South Burlington) continued her stellar freshman season this weekend, helping the Catamounts go 2-1. On Saturday she won the 100 (59.04) and 200 (2:05.61) backstroke events over both Drexel and Delaware. She was also victorious in the 100 butterfly (1:00.17) against Drexel and was a member of the 200-medley relay that defeated Delaware. On Sunday she took first in the 200 IM (2:11.81) and the 200 backstroke (2:04.56). The win in the 200 backstroke set a new Lehigh pool record, breaking the previous mark of 2:06.91.

Freshman Morabito (Owego, N.Y./Owego Free Academy) picked up his first collegiate win in the meet against Towson as he turned in a score of 216.15 on the one-meter board. Morabito was also runner-up in the three-meter, posting a season-best score of 220.88 on the board.

Freshman Gall (Balgonie, Saskatchewan, Canada/Dr. Martin LeBoldus) swept the diving events in the Retrievers' meet against Towson on Saturday, recording scores of 246.07 and 254.55 on the one- and three-meter boards, respectively.
