.: Bentley Splits With Brandeis

Waltham, MA , November 13th, 2007

Seniors Arden Brust (Newark, N.Y./Newark HS) and Liza Connolly (Washington, Conn./Shepaug Valley Reg. HS) each won two individual events and participated in the winning 400 freestyle relay, helping the Falcons to a 133-101 win over Brandeis University Tuesday night in women’s college swimming at the Brandeis pool.

In its final meet before the Northeast-10 Championships (Nov. 30-Dec. 2), Bentley captured all but one event while evening its record at 2-2.  In the only event a Falcon didn’t win, freshman Anne Kaduboski (Dedham/Dedham HS) broke her own school record in the 200 yard butterfly, her time of 2:14.26 shaving about a second off the mark she set 10 days ago and two seconds off the record at the start of the season.

Bentley opened the meet with a winning effort in the 400 medley relay, with sophomore Kristen Reinckens (Hudson, N.Y./Hudson HS), junior Kaitlin Chepeleff (Vernon, Conn./Rockville HS), Kaduboski and sophomore Carolyn Connolly (Palm Desert, Calif./Palm Desert HS) teaming for a time of 4:15.67.

Brust captured the 1000 free (11:01.22) and 200 backstroke (2:18.90) while Liza Connolly was victorious in the 50 free (25.60) and the 100 free (55.72). Chepeleff was also a double-winner, touching first in the 200 individual medley (2:19.21) and the 200 breaststroke (2:31.70).

Freshman Emily Travers (Brentwood, N.H./Exeter HS) swept the diving events, with scores of 205.65 on the one-meter board and 201.35 on the three-meter.

Bentley’s other individual winners were Kaduboski in the 200 free (2:02.23) and junior Kristen Thuerk (Cheshire, Conn./Cheshire HS) in the 500 free (5:32.60).

Brandeis University won nine of 13 events, and had the top three finishers in three freestyle events (100, 200 and 1,000 yard), to best Bentley, 127-99, in men’s college swimming Tuesday night at the Brandeis pool.

Sophomore Sam Laden (Cheshire, Conn./Cheshire HS) led Bentley by swimming a leg on the winning 400 medley relay team and capturing the 200 breaststroke in 2:21.79. In the relay, he teamed with sophomore Willie Connolly (Washington, Conn./Shepaug Valley Reg. HS), freshman Egen Ouellette (West Hartford, Conn./Conard HS) and senior Bryan Stinchfield (Darien, Conn./Darien HS) for a time of 3:48.93.

The Falcons’ only other victories came in the two diving events, with freshman Jon Andrews (Southbury, Conn./Pomperaug HS) posting a score of 283.80 on the one-meter, a performance that met the NCAA cut,  and senior Kyle Reese (Hamden, Conn./Notre Dame HS) 254.70 on the three-meter. The latter was contested Monday night in the Bentley pool.

Brandeis was led by double-individual winners James Liu (100 free, 200 free) and Nick Rice (50 free, 200 back). Both were also part of the Judges’ winning 400 free relay team.
