HANOVER, NH , November 11th, 2007

Meet Results

Three seniors and two freshmen contributed to a pair of pool records and rookies accounted for seven of the Harvard women’s swimming and diving team’s nine individual wins as the Crimson posted wins over host Dartmouth and Cornell in the first official meet of the season Saturday at Karl Michael Pool.

Senior Jaclyn Pangilinan had a hand in three event wins as Harvard downed Cornell, 169.5-128.5, and Dartmouth, 174-124, using the competitiveness it showed in last week’s scrimmage against Florida State but improving its technical performance. Pangilinan teamed up with classmates Lindsay Hart and Meaghan Colling and freshman Katy Hinkle for a win in the 200-yard medley relay in a pool-record time of 1:47.82 in the first swimming event of the day.

Pangilinan also won both breaststrokes, claiming the 100 in 1:05.79 and the 200 in 2:21.21. Hinkle added a win in the 100 backstroke in 59 seconds.

Freshman Katherine Mills also set a pool record with her 200 back win in 2:08.61. Classmate Jane D'Ambrosia placed second. The record-breaking performance came in the second win of the day for Mills. She earlier took first in the 1,000 free in 10:13.33.

Christine Kaufmann, another freshman, also posted a pair of wins, taking the 200 butterfly in 2:08.61 and the 200 individual medley in 2:11.66. She was followed to the wall in the 200 fly by fellow rookie Alyssa Stachowski and in the 200 IM by sophomore Kay Foley.

Harvard swimmers also went 1-2 in the 500 freestyle. Katherine Pickard placed first in 5:03.72, followed by sophomore Katie Faulkner. Other notable swimming performances came from Colling, who placed second in the 200 free and third in the 100 free, and freshman Alexandra Slack, who was the runner-up in the 100 fly.

The Crimson Class of 2011 was just as strong in the diving events. Anne Taylor opened the day with 243. 90 points to win the three-meter, and Jennifer Reese later took the one-meter with 243.40 points. Marissa Ash was second in each dive.

Harvard swam the final race, the 400 free relay, as an exhibition, but still touched first in 3:32.70. The team was made up of  two seniors and two freshmen: Pangilinan, Hinkle, Pickard and Hart.

Cornell defeated Dartmouth, 161-139. Another Ivy League road meet awaits the Crimson Friday at Columbia.
