.: Hopkins Wins Thomas Murphy Invitational

The Johns Hopkins women's swim team finished first at this weekend's Thomas Murphy Invitational hosted by Loyola College (MD). Hopkins defeated host Loyola 209.50-148.50. Hopkins beat Howard 224-93 and VMI 281-19. The Blue Jays won 10 of the 20 events at the Invitational.

Sophomore Kate Hansen (Berkeley Heights, NJ/Governor Livingston) opened with one of her two wins, taking first in the 500 Free with a season best time of 5:18.80. Next up, freshman Caitlin Dennis (Moorsetown, NJ/Merion Mercy Academy) took second in the 200 IM, finishing in 2:17.19. Hopkins then won the 800 Free Relay with a total time of 8:07.49. Sophomore Kristin Cunningham (North Potomac, MD) swam the first leg, followed by senior Allie Foster (Pennington, NJ/Hopewell Valley Academy), freshman Sarah Thomas (Portsmouth, NH/St. Thomas Aquinas) and Hansen.

In the 400 IM, Foster got her first win of the invitational, as Hopkins took the top three spots. Foster finished in 4:45.31. Hansen took second (4:46.83) and Dennis took third (4:48.46). Freshman Lisa Qu (Atlanta, GA/Westminster) then took second in the 100 Fly with a time of 59.83 - a season best time. In the 200 Free, sophomore Elissa Stautner (The Woodlands, TX/Oak Ridge) got the first of her two wins, as the Blue Jays once again took the top three spots. Stautner finished in 1:58.72, followed by Thomas in second (2:00.27) and sophomore Jackie Rooney (Ft. Lauderdale, FL/The Culver Academies) in third (2:01.46). 
 

Foster got her second win in the 100 Breast (1:09.91) with Dennis taking second (1:11.32). Stautner then won the 1650 Free, finishing in 18:22.32. After that, it was another relay win for the Blue Jays, as they won the 200 Medley Relay (1:55.28). Hansen swam the first leg, followed by Dennis, Qu and Rooney. Hansen got her second win, finishing first in the 200 Back (2:13.08). Qu took second with a time of 2:15.24.

Foster then won her third event, the 200 Breast, finishing in 2:29.19. Dennis finished in second with a time of 2:30.60. Hopkins closed out the meet with a win in the 400 Free Relay (3:45.98). Cunningham swam the first leg, followed by Thomas, Stautner and Foster.
