.: Ranking the Classes: #8 - Georgia

May 15th, 2007

G eorgia With ten seniors appearing on this year’s Georgia roster, intuition would tell you that the Bulldogs were aiming for a big class this year. That’s not what they got in the three announced signees. Small doesn’t mean bad though. In fact, among top-three recruits, the Bulldogs rank 6th and they’re not only good, they’re versatile Mark Dylla (Littleton, CO) is pure stud – the 9th best recruit in the country his ability ranges from the 100 back where he’s ranked 4th among seniors to the mile (where he’s ranked 7th). IMer Bill Cregar (Washington Township, NJ) is right beside him in the 400 IM and Martin Kata (Martinez, GA) has the distinction of being one of the few guys in the top twenty-five of both the 400 IM and the 100 free.

Looking at the just how good Georgia’s women’s class is, you can’t help but wonder of Jack Bauerle and crew aren’t holding some money back for 2008. There are also plenty of talented in-staters who just aren’t quite good enough to earn a scholarship from a program like Georgia. They are, however, the types of kids who can make a contribution at the SEC level and can take advantage of the state’s generous HOPE Scholarship Program.
