Ranking the Classes: #7 - Indiana

Indiana - After years of bringing in some of the nation’s biggest recruiting class, the Hoosiers took on a distinctly smaller look this year but the four announced signees could comprise the Hoosier medley relays for years to come. Cody Weik (Lebanon, PA) is the fourth fastest prep 200 freestyler coming out this year and Titus Knight (Jenks, OK by way of Austin, TX) is one of the ten best freestyle seniors. Those two aren’t Austin Staab or Dan Madwed-caliber yet, but at as the Minnesota 400 Free relay proved this year, talent doesn’t always win out.

Doug Spraul’s (Princeton, OH) underwater kicks make him one of the three best backstrokers among the ranks and also puts him as one of the better flyers in the country. The jewel of the class, however could wind up being in-stater Tyler Lemert (Fort Wayne). Without Kevin Swander, Indiana struggled to find a front-line breaststroker for their relays. Lemert solves that problem and the disparity between his 100 and 200 times (54.8 to 2:02.9) will continue to blossom.

The Hoosiers don’t lose much from a team that finished 15th in the country last season and as competitive as the Big Ten has become, Ray Looze and company did more to improve their standing than most of their conference rivals.
