.: Millikin Annoints King

Decatur, IL , May 15th, 2007

Millikin University has announced that Charlie King has accepted the position of Head Men’s and Women’s Swimming Coach. King replaces Paul Kuetermann and Paul Yemm. Yemm assumed the head coaching duties after Kuetermann resigned mid-season.  Millikin is the second CCIW school to name a head coach in as many weeks.  Augustana College named Greg Naumann head coach on May 9th.

King comes to Millikin after a two-year stay as the men’s and women’s assistant coach at St. Cloud State University (Minn.) where his athletes won five All-America honors and set nine school records. During the 2006-07 season, both the men’s and women’s teams were ranked in the nation’s Top 5. Since 2004, he has also served as a counselor/coach at the Stanford International Swim Camp.

“We are so excited to welcome Charlie King to the Millikin community,” Athletic Director Lori Kerans said. “Coach King brings coaching experience and enthusiasm to our Big Blue swimming program. During the interview and selection process, Coach King was able to share his passion, vision and commitment to excellence with the search committee, athletic staff and student-athletes."

“I am honored and excited to join the rich environment of tradition and success at Millikin University. This is a great place for young men and women to receive an outstanding education while excelling in athletics. I look forward to helping these students find success in and out of the pool.”

Prior to his tenure at St. Cloud State, King was the head women’s swim coach at Augsburg College (Minn.) from 2003-05. Before that, he served as the co-head coach for the Monticello Swim Club in Monticello, Minn. (1998-04). From 2000-03 King was the women’s assistant coach at Monticello (Minn.) High School and added the men’s assistant position in 2001-02. King had additional experience as the men’s head coach at St. Cloud Apollo High School (1998-00) and was a volunteer assistant at St. Cloud State for one season from 1998-99. King is no stranger to the CCIW, having begun his own competitive career at Carthage College.

King earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Secondary Education (Social Sciences) from St. Cloud State University in 2000. He is currently defending his thesis to complete his Master of Science in Sports Management.
