.: Augustana Hires Naumann

Rock Island, IL , May 12th, 2007

Greg Naumann has been named the head coach for both the men and women’s swim team at Augustana, it was announced today by Chuck Gordon, Director of Athletics. He replaces Jake Anderson, who resigned following the 2006-07 seasons. Naumann is a Quad City native who swam competitively at both Davenport North High School and Western Illinois University.

He has had a variety of coaching positions since his graduation from Western Illinois in 2002 with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Individual Studies. Most recently he was the head coach of the Davenport Metro swim team, where he handles swimmers from ages five to 22. He began that position in April of 2005. Prior to that he was the head coach of the McDonough County YMCA for one year and he was also an assistant coach at Western Illinois for both the men’s and women’s teams.

Naumann was the aquatics director of the Davenport Family YMCA during the 2006-07 school year and he spent two seasons as the head boys and girls swim coach at MacombHigh School. He also was the aquatics facility manager of the DavenportParks and Recreation department during the summers of 2003 and 2004.

He was a four year letterwinner at Western Illinois and served as team captain in 2002. He was a member of four conference team champions while competing for the Leathernecks and was a second team all-conference performer in the Mid-Continent Conference in 2002. He is included on the top 10 times list at Western Illinois in the 100 backstroke and was named the team’s “Newcomer of the Year” for the 1998-99 season.

In high school, he was a standout at Davenport North where he earned four varsity letters. He was a three time state qualifier and placed eighth in the 100 backstroke as a senior. An academic all-state performer, at one time he held the Wildcats’ school record in both the 100 backstroke and 200 individual medley.
