Kuhn Takes Helm At Sweet Briar College

Sweet Briar Athletic Director Kelly Morrison has announced the appointment of Alexander Kuhn as head swim coach and aquatics director on Friday. Kuhn comes to Sweet Briar College after serving as the assistant coach and head recruiting coordinator at Grinnell College in Iowa for the past three years.

“We are very excited about hiring Alex,” Morrison said. “He brings the complete package-a solid collegiate swimming and coach experience, excellent recruiting experience and a high level of energy and excitement. His experience in recruiting will help us to continue bringing in top student-athletes to the swim program at Sweet Briar and his solid technical background will help our student athletes maximize their potential.”

During his tenure at Grinnell, the men’s and women’s teams captured conference championships in 2005, 2006 and 2007, with Kuhn’s first two recruiting classes accounting for more than three quarters of the team’s conference scorers.

Kuhn also brings over nine years of experience as a senior level instructor and camp director at Fluid Mechanics, an aquatic consulting firm which offers clinics, workshops and camps worldwide. While at Fluid Mechanics, Kuhn became the youngest camp director in company history.

“I am very excited to be named the head coach of Sweet Briar swimming and look forward to working with the team and creating a family atmosphere,” said Kuhn. The program has made great strides and I hope to build on that success.”

Kuhn will be taking over an already successful swimming program. The Vixens were 10-3 this past season and placed third out of 11 teams at the 2007 ODAC/Atlantic States meet in February with 18 top-ten finishes. Last spring, the team posted the top GPA among all swimming programs, both male and female in all three divisions, to lead the College Swimming Coaches Association of America Academic All-American list.
